Snacks tend to have quite a bad reputation, particularly when it comes to weight loss. What you may not realise however, is that healthy snacks can be really beneficial for the body. Helping with weight management, giving you plenty of energy to face the day and supplying the body with important nutrients, healthy snacks are an essential part of any diet. The question is, what exactly is a healthy snack?

When you spend a lot of time on the move, it’s easy to snack on foods such as crisps, chocolate and salted nuts. Not only are these delicious, but they also provide you with a very quick burst of energy. However, this sudden spike in your blood sugar levels can lead to a ‘crash’ shortly afterwards that leaves you feeling sluggish. Here are a few good healthy snacks to indulge in when you’re on the move.

Granola bars can be a great snack; the only thing to be aware of is that they can contain high sugar levels so should only be enjoyed occasionally as part of a healthy, balanced diet.

Smoothies can be a good healthy snack on the go and can either be made at home or bought from the shops when you’re out and about. While there are plenty of tasty smoothies on the shelves, making them at home gives you a chance to experiment and whip up some delicious and innovative creations!

Nuts and seeds will help to keep you feeling fuller for longer. They can also contain a high level of omega 3, depending on which variety you choose. The only thing to bear in mind is that nuts do have a lot of fat, so it’s best to keep it to one handful in a day.
